GW27 came to an end with a sensational 1-0 victory for the Canaries over Spurs, which helped Liverpool race six points clear in the race for the top four. Strikers ran riot as Sturridge and Giroud crossed the 15 points barrier though Suarez failed to get on the scoresheet yet again, raising a lot of eyebrows over his 13.4mn price tag. With RVP, Rooney, Toure, Negredo and co. missing this weekend due to a blank gameweek for the Manchester giants, the Captaincy choices seem to be have widened up, lets see who makes the cut this weekend!
THE CONTENDERS:
Wilfried Bony: The Ivorian beast came into his own against Liverpool, mandhandling their defenders and causing havoc whenever he had the ball near the box. Goals from a deflected header and a cool penalty that he himself earned gave his owners something to really cheer about, and make them crave for more as Crystal Palace visit the Liberty Stadium. A good pick on current form, but his inconsistency to find the back of the net week in week out makes him too risky a pick to grab the armband.
Jordan Henderson: Just kidding.
Rickie Lambert: The Englishman has a tally of 2 goals and 2 assists in his last four games despite failing to score in his two appearances. Lambert's strength and aerial prowess will come in handy when they entertain Liverpool who were made to look really fragile at the back by Swansea. With Southampton desperately trying to end the season in the top half, big guns like Lambert will be expected to step up and a match winning performance in a high profile game against Liverpool could well help Lambert seal his berth for the World Cup.
Shane Long: The forward put in yet another great shift and was instrumental in Hull's thrashing of Cardiff, perhaps deserved a bit more than a solitary assist. A home tie against a depleted Newcastle side could well see him get back to scoring ways, making a very decent punt for the ones who like to take those risks.
THE TOP THREE:
1.DANIEL STURRIDGE:
Well, who else could it be? Sturridge has been in an unreal run of form, making full use of the constant chance creating Liverpool midfield and finishing everything will aplomb. With a momentous nine goals and four assists in the last seven games, Sturridge has become an absolute must have and easily eclipses the other contenders to be the #1 Captaincy Choice for #GW28.
2. Emmanuel Adebayor:
The Togolese forward has been mercurial ever since Sherwood took over and with every game massively important for Spurs to make the coveted fourth spot, Adebayor's durability and skill will be put to the test. With their next opponents Cardiff having conceded a whopping fourteen goals in their last five away games, goals should be in plenty and Adebayor will be fancied to improve his med
3.Luis Suarez: ONE LAST CHANCE. With a lack of genuine options thanks to be the blank gameweek awarded to the Manchester clubs, Suarez makes the top three purely on his reputation. With just a solitary goal in his last six starts its not difficult to see why thousands of managers have decided to part ways with him but as we saw with RVP last season, class is indeed permanent and Suarez is destined to ultimately hit that top form again. Goals will rain, but when? Against a Southampton defense that has conceded two goals per game in their last five home ties? Only time will tell.
THE BIG GAMBLE:
Eden Hazard: The best player of the table toppers is usually the top Captaincy choice when his side faces Fulham, but it isn't so straightforward when it comes to Hazard. The winger has been in cracking form but the goals have dried up off late as he has managed to score/assist in only one out of his last six games though he registered a memorable hattrick when he did manage to score. With the potential sky high and form not really on his side, Eden Hazard depicts the perfect gamble, and might prove to be a massive captaincy differential if its his day this weekend.
